The following article was originally printed in the Denver News,
probably in the Winter of 1885/1886. I don't have access to early issues
of that paper. The reprint below is from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle
of March 1886. A part of this article, describing the hunting
episode, was also reprinted in the Chicago Daily Tribune,
February 6, 1886, p. 6, under the title "An artist's adventures; If he
paints as well as he shoots he will be heard from". The article may have
been reprinted in other newspapers.

[the concluding paragraph]
Mr. Proctor is a modest and quiet young man,
with unusually pleasant and gentle manners. Like
a great many young students he will have to make
his living as he goes along, and he will probably
find it hard scratching in New York at first, but he
has already learned lessons of self denial and
perseverance, and there is no doubt that his efforts will
be crowned with success. Such young men are an
honor to Colorado and deserve encouragement.
Mr. Proctor will be followed to his new home in the
East by the best wishes of all who know him here.
